Wilkes County Schools

Mary Welch, Wilkes County Teacher of the Year, was honored with the Gale Samuels Award. This award is sponsored by the Georgia Teacher of the Year Association and provides the winner with a monetary award to use on an identified project. Mrs. Welch's project, entitled "Words Carry Weight", focuses on exposing students to a variety of interest-based, skill-based, and leveled mentor texts.  Throughout the year, students will work through these texts to examine author's craft and learn about the power of the pen in their own writing. Congratulations, Mrs. Welch!
