GADOE

The Wilkes County School District is proud to announce that Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School has been recognized as a 2025 Georgia Advanced Placement (AP) Honor School by the Georgia Department of Education. The school earned this prestigious distinction in three categories:

AP STEM School – Recognizing schools with a strong commitment to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education through AP coursework.

AP Access & Support School – Honoring schools that ensure equitable access to AP courses for students from diverse backgrounds.

AP Challenge School – Celebrating small schools that offer AP courses across multiple subject areas.

Georgia School Superintendent Richard Woods stated, "Georgia's 2025 AP Honor Schools exemplify our commitment to providing students with rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that prepare them for success beyond high school. I commend these schools for their dedication to academic excellence and equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in college, careers, and life."

AP exams, administered by the College Board (which also oversees the SAT), provide students with the opportunity to engage in college-level learning while still in high school. Students who score a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may qualify for college credit. The Georgia Department of Education has been recognizing AP Honor Schools since 2008, celebrating schools that excel in expanding access to rigorous coursework and student achievement.

This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and administrators. Congratulations to all!
